Education

Bachelor of Arts in Physics (Expected May 2027)

Reed College

Matriculated in 2023 and am a current junior physics student at Reed College where I have successfully completed all 100- and 200-level physics coursework and am currently working through the 300-level coursework. Have developed familiarity with laboratory electronics, kinematics, and modern physics experiments as well as with numerical and statistical methods in Python and C++ and mathematical modelling and analysis in Wolfram Mathematica. Additionally have gained experience using National Instruments LabView for advanced undergraduate laboratory experiments such as the creation and use of Single Photon Avalanche Detectors.

Experience

Research Assistant, Heath Lab (February 2026-)

Reed College

Work on creating and analyzing 2D materials and devices with Prof. Jennifer Heath, the lab primarily focuses on measuring electronic properties and transport in 2D materials. Use optical microscopy to examine samples and am in the process of creating samples to be assembled into a device for analysis.

Research Assistant, Economics Department (April 2025-)

Reed College

Work with Prof. Lindsey Novak, focus on manipulating geospatial datasets into a usable format for analysis of the effects of cellular coverage on gender and economic development in Africa. Have used R studio as the primary tool for the project as well as limited application of Python.

Competition Team Coach (September 2024-)

Movement Gyms Portland

Work with competitive youth athletes to develop their climbing techniques and competition strategies. Support athletes as they attend competitions, allowing them to be mentally, emotionally, and competitively successful. Provide a safe environment in which athletes can develop both as climbers and human beings.

Gateway Instructor (June 2024-)

Movement Gyms Portland

Work with new participants in climbing to develop their skills and provide a safe, fun, and comfortable introduction to the sport.

Climbing Wall Manager (December 2023-)

Reed College

Manage climbing wall monitors and setters, coordinate events, and hire candidates for positions at the climbing wall. Liaise with other departments to promote the climbing wall as a resource for community building and exercise.

Climbing Wall Lead Setter (September 2023-)

Reed College

Coordinate a team of setters to create fun and approachable climbs which challenge the community’s knowledge and skills. Work with members of the community to ensure that the climbs at the wall are suitable for their interests and rectify any concerns they may have.

Founding Peer Tutor, Undergraduate Tutor (January 2022-)

Smart City Learning Cafe

Began volunteering to help other students with math and science difficulties which were becoming significant during the pandemic while in high school working with a former physics teacher, Joe Minato, who opens the local cafe for late night tutoring session on Wednesday. After graduating high school, have continued attending as often as possible, focusing on working with students who are better served by a tutor who can devote more time and has more experience than possible in peer tutoring. Featured on local news station KOIN6 and in the Portland Tribune.
